The General Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of a facility with significant revenue, ensuring efficient and safe management of resources. This role involves setting strategic directions, providing leadership, and promoting effective operations while maintaining high production standards and a positive corporate image.

  • Plan, organize, control and direct facility operations with up to 19 million in revenue.
  • Set strategic direction for Facility Manager(s) and corresponding facilities.
  • Provide leadership to ensure positive employee/employer relations.
  • Promote and manage effective and profitable operations and resource management.
  • Sustain a productive workforce by hiring, training, and evaluating personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws and compensation guidelines.
  • Establish high appearance standards for employees and ensure safe working conditions.
  • Implement and promote a Safety Program to recognize and reward safe employees.
  • Plan and route collection services to optimize personnel and equipment usage.
  • Implement corporate guidelines for Preventive Maintenance to reduce downtime and costs.
  • Establish a container repair, delivery, and switch-out program.
  • Develop and implement a cost control program for supplies and services.
  • Establish production standards for operations and promote accident prevention programs.
  • Enter payroll bi-weekly and ensure Operations Supervisors utilize the Full Route Roll-Off Dispatch system.
  • Utilize Route Smart system for optimized compaction routes and conduct annual route audits.
  • Review profit and loss statements monthly and adjust operations to achieve desired results.
  • Develop an operations profit plan including income sources, cost of operations, and growth objectives.
  • Partner with Sales Manager to develop sales forecasts and establish pricing guidelines.
  • Promote a strong customer focus and manage the sales force to meet objectives.
  • Identify growth opportunities in assigned market areas and negotiate existing contracts.
  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience in an operational environment.
  • Five or more years of experience in the waste industry or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of equipment required for waste collection, processing, or disposal.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and reports.
  • Experience in a similar managerial role within the waste management sector.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance standards in the waste industry.
