At APAA, the General Manager of Auction Services plays a critical leadership role in overseeing day-to-day auction operations and ensuring departments work together efficiently, safely, and accurately to deliver successful auctions from intake to close. The General Manager of Auction Services oversees and coordinates all internal auction operations to ensure the efficient, accurate, and timely execution of auction activities. This role provides strategic and operational leadership across departments, from receiving consigned merchandise through auction close and final transfer to winning bidders, while managing production schedules, resources, safety standards, and performance metrics.

Requirements

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of directly related management experience.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and improve processes in a fast-paced, operational environment.
  • Strong communication, presentation, training, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical, planning, and organizational abilities.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting customer expectations and operational goals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace applications.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality; ability to ensure coverage when absent.
  • Ability to oversee complex, multi-phase auctions from start to finish.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and/or Google Workspace applications.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass background and reference checks.
  • Ability to become a Notary in the State of Alaska.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating the movement of people, inventory, and resources to ensure smooth auction production from intake through final delivery.
  • Develop and manage auction production schedules to ensure operational deadlines and milestones are consistently met.
  • Coordinate staffing, equipment, and departmental resources to maintain workflow continuity and ensure teams are properly resourced to meet production goals.
  • Oversee merchandise intake, sorting, and inventory processing to ensure items are properly organized and prepared for cataloging and auction.
  • Coordinate transportation and inventory movement, including pickups, transports, yard logistics, and off-site project support.
  • Manage timelines for loadouts, customer pickups, and shipping services to ensure efficient post-auction fulfillment.
  • Work closely with warehouse, yard, cataloging, and shipping teams to maintain organized inventory flow and storage practices.
  • Oversee the Administrative Department and its responsibilities, including auction payment collection, invoicing, and the maintenance of accurate customer and transaction records within company systems.
  • Anticipate logistical challenges and implement proactive solutions to maintain schedule reliability and operational continuity.
  • Responsible for driving operational efficiency, productivity, and safety while maintaining strong systems, procedures, and measurable performance standards.
  • Oversee all phases of auction operations, including intake, cataloging, auction execution, loadouts, and post-auction logistics.
  • Track departmental KPIs, production metrics, and workflow performance to monitor productivity, quality, and operational effectiveness.
  • Monitor departmental time tracking, project-level profitability, and operational resource allocation to ensure accountability and efficiency.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance operational performance, scalability, and operational accuracy.
  • Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent workflows and operational accountability.
  • Establish and oversee training programs that build operational competency and reinforce best practices across departments.
  • Maintain oversight of warehouse, yard, equipment, and operational safety standards while ensuring compliance with company safety programs.
  • Investigate operational challenges or service issues and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Responsible for developing strong internal leadership, supporting employee development, and maintaining trusted relationships with customers, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching to department managers, supervisors, and operational staff.
  • Foster a collaborative and accountable workplace culture that promotes teamwork, communication, and operational excellence.
  • Partner with Human Resources on performance management, employee development, and workplace concerns.
  • Support leadership development across operational teams while reinforcing accountability to company standards and goals.
  • Maintain professional relationships with consignors, buyers, vendors, transport partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Address client concerns or operational challenges with professionalism and timely resolution.
  • Represent the company with integrity in operational interactions with customers and partners while supporting APAA’s reputation for reliability and transparency.
  • Work with Department Managers and Supervisors to oversee auction-related operations while supporting leadership development and accountability.
  • Provide direction and guidance to employees engaged in production and operational activities.
  • Observe, review, and evaluate staff performance in alignment with company policies and operational standards.
