About The Position

The General Manager of Nuclear Engineering is the senior leader responsible for directing and overseeing all engineering functions that support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the nuclear power plant. This role provides strategic leadership, technical oversight, governance, and alignment of engineering programs—including design engineering, systems engineering, programs engineering, nuclear fuels engineering, and procurement engineering. The General Manager ensures all engineering activities comply with federal regulations, licensing commitments, industry standards, plant procedures, and the highest standards of nuclear safety and operational excellence. Ensure compliance with NRC regulations, licensing requirements, industry standards, and plant procedures. Oversee system health, design changes, safety evaluations, equipment reliability, and long-term asset planning. Lead and develop a high‑performing engineering organization. Support daily operations and emergent issue resolution with strong technical expertise. Manage engineering budgets, staffing, and external technical resources. Foster a strong nuclear safety culture and continuous improvement mindset.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate in engineering or related science
  • Power Plant experience which shall include 4 years
  • Nuclear power plant experience to include 4 years
  • Supervisory or Management experience to include 3 years.
  • Shall meet one of the following: Hold a Senior Operators License, or Have held a Senior Operators License, or Have been certified for equivalent Senior Operator Knowledge, or Have plant operational knowledge consistent with the requirements of the engineering manager’s job
  • During the years of nuclear power plant experience, the individual shall have participated in supervisory or management activities at a nuclear power plant during the following periods: 1 month of operation above 20% power, 1 month of routine refueling outage, Initial plant startup testing or post refueling outage startup testing.
  • Please be aware that Talen Energy requires extensive Nuclear Power Plant background security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10–15+ years of nuclear power plant engineering experience, with demonstrated leadership.
  • Deep knowledge of nuclear plant systems, design basis, regulatory requirements, and engineering programs.
  • PE license and/or SRO/SRO-equivalent knowledge preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
