About The Position

The General Transportation Manager leads transportation operations for a small to mid‑sized facility, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost‑effective movement of freight. This role drives execution across inbound and outbound transportation, manages financial performance, develops leaders, and partners closely with distribution centers, transportation command centers, and external partners to deliver consistent service—especially during disruptions or emergencies. Key Responsibilities Transportation Operations & Execution Lead daily transportation operations to meet service, safety, and performance goals. Drive execution of multiple business plans and projects by aligning priorities, resources, and performance standards. Balance inbound and outbound transportation needs to ensure consistent freight flow and on‑time delivery. Develop contingency plans and demonstrate adaptability in dynamic or high‑impact situations. Emergency & Command Center Coordination Serve as the primary liaison with the Transportation Command Center during regional or facility‑level disruptions. Coordinate with distribution centers and transportation offices to identify alternate routes, carriers, and transportation solutions. Ensure continuous freight movement during emergency events by optimizing resource utilization. Financial & Performance Management Manage facility transportation budgets by monitoring expenses, tracking asset utilization, and controlling costs. Review and analyze business and performance reports to identify trends and improvement opportunities. Adjust plans as needed to meet changing business demands and performance targets. Continuous Improvement & Strategy Lead ongoing improvements in transportation efficiency, cost, and service. Drive development and execution of strategic transportation plans aligned with supply chain goals. Evaluate and support implementation of new systems, software, and process enhancements. Ensure transportation initiatives achieve key business metrics and service expectations. People Leadership & Development Lead and develop associates and leaders through coaching, mentoring, and performance management. Establish clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and support learning and growth opportunities. Support hiring, promotion, and succession planning efforts. Build a team‑based work environment that promotes engagement, accountability, and collaboration. Requirements

  • Experience leading transportation or logistics operations in a distribution or supply chain environment
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and performance metrics
  • Proven ability to lead and develop teams and leaders
  • Experience managing change, continuous improvement, and complex operations
  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and collaboration skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Management, Supply Chain, Business Administration, Finance, or related field and 3 years’ supervisory experience in a senior management role within an operation, distribution, supply chain, or retail environment OR 5 years’ supervisory experience in a senior management role in an operations, distribution, supply chain, or retail environment.
