About The Position

The General Manager of Facilities is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and daily operations of all facilities functions across the campus. This position oversees maintenance, custodial services, and groundskeeping to ensure the campus is well-maintained, safe, and operationally efficient. The ideal candidate brings a strong maintenance and technical background, combined with the ability to lead diverse operational teams and deliver high-quality service to the campus community.

Requirements

  • 5–7+ years of facilities or maintenance management experience, preferably in an institutional or multi‑building setting.
  • Strong technical background in building maintenance, with knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience managing custodial and/or grounds teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance scheduling.
  • Strong organizational, budgeting, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in a higher‑education environment.
  • Certifications such as CFM, FMP, or OSHA 30.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities for campus buildings and infrastructure.
  • Oversee maintenance technicians and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to high-quality standards.
  • Manage building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, and life-safety equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Oversee custodial staff and contracted services to ensure clean, sanitary, and safe facilities.
  • Establish quality standards and conduct regular inspections of academic buildings, residence halls, and common spaces.
  • Manage custodial schedules, staffing assignments, and supply inventories.
  • Supervise groundskeeping teams responsible for landscaping, snow removal, athletic fields, outdoor spaces, and seasonal maintenance.
  • Ensure the campus grounds are attractive, well-maintained, and safe for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Manage, train, and mentor a diverse facilities workforce, including skilled trades, custodial staff, and grounds personnel.
  • Lead performance evaluations, scheduling, and professional development initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, respect, and teamwork.
  • Develop and manage budgets for maintenance, custodial, and grounds operations.
  • Track expenses, approve purchases, and identify opportunities for cost efficiencies.
  • Manage vendor relationships and service contracts.
  • Assist with long-term facilities planning and ongoing infrastructure needs.
  • Support campus events, seasonal operations, and emergency response activities.
  • Maintain clear communication with campus stakeholders regarding project timelines and service needs.
