About The Position

Sodexo's Campus Segment is seeking a General Manager 2 to lead dining services at UMaine Machias , a small state university featuring one resident dining facility, one retail operation, and catering services. This role works closely with five sister campuses throughout Maine, with a strong focus on sustainability and sourcing local foods. The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of dining operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, nutritious, and sustainable meals that support student well-being and academic success. The University of Maine at Machias (UMaine Machias) is Maine’s coastal university, located in the historic town of Machias along the state’s scenic Bold Coast. As the easternmost university in the United States, UMaine Machias offers a unique learning and living experience on a 243-acre campus surrounded by pristine forests and trails, close to the Atlantic Ocean. Requirements

  • Proven experience in food service management, preferably in a higher education or comparable environment
  • Strong commitment to sustainability and local sourcing in dining operations
  • Thorough knowledge of health, safety, and sanitation standards and ability to ensure strict compliance
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with staff, students, and university stakeholders
  • Budget management and cost control skills with experience analyzing financial reports
  • Collaborative mindset with ability to build relationships across departments and external partners
  • Passion for creating a positive and supportive dining experience that promotes student well-being and success
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of a small university community
  • Minimum Education Requirement - Associate's Degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum Management Experience - 2 years
  • Minimum Functional Experience - 2 years

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all daily dining operations, including resident dining, retail, and catering services, ensuring exceptional food quality and customer satisfaction
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and develop dining services staff, fostering a motivated and high-performing team
  • Oversee food preparation and service with a focus on nutrition, sustainability, and locally sourced ingredients aligned with university values
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations, maintaining a safe and clean dining environment
  • Collaborate with university departments and sister campuses to coordinate dining services for campus events and special programs
  • Manage operational budgets, control food and labor costs, and maximize efficiency while maintaining quality service
  • Promote sustainability initiatives including waste reduction, recycling, and support for local food systems
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive dining atmosphere that enhances the student experience and supports community engagement
  • Monitor customer feedback and implement continuous improvements in service and operations
