Requirements

  • Knowledge of different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment.
  • Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.
  • Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs.
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks with limited work direction.
  • Ability to keep simple records.
  • Move and/or transport items weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Frequently bend, lift, and maneuver items daily.
  • Applicant must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of related work experience operating and maintaining various custodial equipment such as vacuums, floor machines, auto scrubbers and carpet extractors and prior experience and/or knowledge of other equipment such as fork lift or snow removal equipment.
  • Boiler operator’s license.
  • Knowledge of basic emergency procedures.
  • Communication skills needed to report status of building security and repairs to supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Provide custodial services as assigned for academic programs, maintenance, and other college departments.
  • General cleaning, as assigned, including vacuuming, dusting, scrubbing, windows, etc.
  • Responsible for checking and maintaining supplies in all restrooms and emptying trash, as needed.
  • Responsible to collect items in recycling containers in offices.
  • Responsible for special projects during summer and breaks including stripping, waxing, scrubbing carpets, etc.
  • Assist in snow removal.
  • Responsible to perform assigned role in emergency situations.
