SUMMARY: The General Maintenance Worker reports to the Manager Facilities Planning and Operations Management. Under general supervision and within Brown University Health policies and procedures, performs routine repair and maintenance functions at Brown University Health outreach sites. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: Receives work orders for wide range of repair/maintenance requests at various Brown University Health Affiliate off-site locations. May perform rebuilding/repairing furniture, walls, windows and frames, medical exhibits, installation and replacement of countertops, floor and ceiling tiles, installation of fixtures, dry wall, handrails, locks, hardware, ceramic tile, wall hangings and similar projects. Installs, repairs and adjusts keyboard trays. Removes and replaces HIPPA bins. Work performed may include plastering, painting, staining, varnishing, hanging wallpaper, applying sealant, decorating and protecting interior surfaces, woodwork, trimmings, furniture and equipment. Moves and relocates office furniture and equipment. Resolves minor plumbing and electrical problems that do not require licensed trades person. These activities may include installing, repairing and maintaining a variety of plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, faucets, eye wash stations, emergency showers and related equipment. Installs/replaces bulbs, installs replaces batteries in emergency lighting fixtures, checks breakers, plugs and switches for appropriate operation. Performs initial evaluation of the problem to determine if project is more complex and requires electrical or plumbing contractor to complete the repair. Completes inspections of fire extinguishers and emergency lights. Completes grounds work as directed which may include picking up trash, sweeping curb and dumpster areas and maintains landscaping beds and other areas. Assists with snow and ice removal at all off-site locations using equipment provided by Brown University Health. Communicates with customers about time schedule to complete the work request. Completes basic records, such as work orders, requisitions and vehicle inspection sheets. Performs other duties as assigned.
