About The Position

The General Maintenance Worker for the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians will perform repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling, and other building systems. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and HiSET Equivalency.
  • Valid driver's license. (Required)
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • No felony, theft, stealing, or drug convictions.
  • Must be able to learn and use Google Workspace, Internet, Email, and other software programs as needed.
  • Requires the ability to use, operate, and/or handle equipment such as computer, I-Pad, copier, calculator, or telephone.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to engage in prolonged periods of standing and walking, use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; talk or hear, and must be able to physically able to climb ladders.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and identifies equipment or machines in need of repair.
  • Troubleshoots issues to determine necessary repairs.
  • Plans repair work using the building's blueprints or equipment manual as needed.
  • Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician. Examples may include repairing drywall, painting, and repairing doors and other building fixtures.
  • Performs routine maintenance on building systems.
  • Cleans and assists with upkeep of the facilities.
  • Orders supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Informs visitors by answering or referring inquiries.
  • Supports continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Practices and engages in safety procedures at all times.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and meet task deadlines.
  • Ability to occasionally travel, work irregular hours, and be on call.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Native American History, Heritage, and Customs.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate and work well with others.
  • Exhibit kindness and interact in a respectful manner to Tribal members.
