About the position

The position involves conducting light custodial services and performing routine maintenance and repairs on YMCA buildings, grounds, and equipment. The role requires a combination of technical skills and physical labor to ensure the facilities are well-maintained and safe for use.

Responsibilities

  • Performs minor and major repairs of all buildings and equipment.
  • Replaces broken windows; repairs doors, door locks; installs window blinds.
  • Installs flooring of all types.
  • Repairs plumbing fixtures including but not limited to toilets, sinks, and urinals.
  • Replace and repair receptacles, switches, lighting fixtures and ballasts.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.
  • Performs basic carpentry, including but not limited to ceiling tile replacements, plaster and drywall repairs; interior and exterior painting.
  • Performs light custodial duties and general clean-up of all areas of the building as directed.
  • Performs basic grounds maintenance, as needed.
  • Responsible for upholding all staff safety requirements including cleaning protocols throughout the day, as required by my department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of responsible experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Good skill in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, carpentry, and other maintenance related areas.
  • Knowledge of basic cleaning protocols and chemicals.
  • Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policy.
  • Able to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements as well as meet the Association’s policies on background screening.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPR and First Aid Certifications required.
  • Annual Completion of YMCA Blood Borne Pathogens Training.
  • Annual Completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention class.
  • Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols.
  • Additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor.
