About The Position

Friends University is seeking to fill a General Maintenance Technician position in Wichita Kansas. This position performs general maintenance and repair of campus buildings and off campus houses. Diagnose mechanical failures and perform minor repairs on equipment and building components. Assist in the maintenance and repair of facility plumbing, electrical, HVAC and other systems. Performs aesthetic and structural maintenance, including basic carpentry, drywall repair, painting, and snow removal. Work hours are typically 7:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. May be required/requested to travel to off-campus sites as needed. On-call duty on a rotation basis. Working special events (graduation, homecoming, etc.) is required and 2nd shift as requested. Requirements

  • Three years general maintenance experience is required.
  • Experience with utility vehicles and basic hand tools are needed.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills are necessary.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions and withstand extreme hot and cold working conditions, loud noise environments; lift 100 pounds; walk and/or stand for long periods of time, and climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Working in the boiler room requires being exposed to non-weather wet, humid conditions and extreme heat; working inside freezers requires being exposed to extreme non-weather cold.
  • Position also requires work in high, precarious places, exposure to noxious odors, loud noises, and electrical shock.
  • A valid driver’s license is required for this position.
  • A motor vehicle report will be run to verify insurability and to become an approved driver by the University’s insurance carrier.
