About The Position

This position involves performing skilled work in the general maintenance and repair of municipal buildings. The role requires the application of journey-level mechanical skills, alongside basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical expertise. Key responsibilities include the maintenance and repair of heating and air conditioning systems, replacement and repair of plumbing and electrical fixtures, carpet repair, and other general maintenance tasks. The work is conducted under general supervision and is evaluated through periodic inspections, direct observation, and the overall condition of the facilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate
  • One (1) year experience in general building maintenance or one of the trades (for General Maintenance Technician I)
  • Three (3) years experience in general building maintenance or one of the trades (for General Maintenance Technician II)
  • Valid Florida Driver's License
  • Must possess Journey Level competency card in one of the following trades: Electrical, Heating and Air-Conditioning, or Plumbing (for General Maintenance Technician II)
  • To be eligible for promotion, employee must possess a journey level competency card in one of the following trades: Electrical, Heating or Air-Conditioning or Plumbing
  • For promotion, the employee’s last performance review must have resulted in an overall rating of Meets standards or better with no factor rating of less than meets
  • Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed in the position description
  • Application must provide details of all relevant experience related to the position
  • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree (in lieu of degree)
  • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree (in lieu of degree)
  • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree (in lieu of degree)
  • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree (in lieu of degree)

Nice To Haves

  • Journey Level competency card in one of the following trades: Electrical, Heating and Air-Conditioning, or Plumbing (preferred for General Maintenance Technician I)
  • Training in the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems (desired for both I and II)
