About The Position

General Maintenance Tech I-II Performs highly skilled general building maintenance and repair work. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. General Maintenance Tech III Performs and coordinates highly skilled general building maintenance and repair work. Work may also involve some maintenance and repair of utility systems, including heating, ventilation and air condition, HVAC. May serve as a lead worker. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • General Maintenance Tech I: Some knowledge of: Methods and procedures used in building maintenance and repair; Tools and equipment used in building maintenance and repair. Some skill in: Using, maintaining and repairing of tools and equipment of the trade; Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade. Ability to: Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures
  • General Maintenance Tech II: Considerable knowledge of: Methods and procedures used in building maintenance and repair; Utility systems including heating, air conditioning, electrical wiring and plumbing; Methods and materials used in carpentry work; Tools and equipment used in building maintenance and repair. Proficient skill in: Using, maintaining and repairing of tools and equipment of the trade; Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment; Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade; Repairing and maintaining of buildings, utility systems and related equipment. Ability to: Match paint color and perform painting; Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures
  • General Maintenance Tech III: Extensive knowledge of: Methods and procedures used in building maintenance and repair; Tools and equipment used in building maintenance and repair; Methods and materials used in carpentry work. Expert skill in: Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment; Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade; Repairing and maintaining of buildings, utility systems and related equipment. Proficient skill in: Prioritizing and organizing work assignments; Training in a classroom, office, or field environment
  • General Maintenance Tech I: None
  • General Maintenance Tech II: 2 YEARS in general building maintenance and repair or related work experience.
  • General Maintenance Tech III: 4 YEARS in general building maintenance and repair or related work experience.
  • Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent. Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in ordering and picking up maintenance supplies.
  • Assists with the maintains and repairs floors, walls, ceilings, doors, windows, cabinets and furniture; as required moves items related to these activities including refinishing furniture.
  • Cleans shop and other maintenance environments.
  • Monitors and adjusts temperatures in working areas.
  • Performs and/or monitors building operations and service activities including security, housekeeping, building and grounds maintenance as required moves items related to these activities.
  • Performs general building maintenance and repairs.
  • Assists with performing periodic preventative maintenance on heating, ventilating, air conditioning, electrical, and/or plumbing systems.
  • Performs locksmith related duties and handles issues related to keys for facilities.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on district fuel systems and maintains fuel levels in generators.
  • Operates forklift, unloads facility deliveries, and safely stores stock in appropriate areas.
  • Maintains grounds at district offices and shops and makes repairs as needed.
  • Assists with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair as required.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
  • Maintains and repairs floors, walls, ceilings, doors, windows, cabinets and furniture; as required moves items related to these activities.
  • Refinishes furniture.
  • Tapes and floats sheetrock.
  • Enters work order information and tracks projects in the Automated Software System and orders materials and equipment.
  • Prepares, cleans, primes, and paints interior and exterior walls, ceilings, and equipment.
  • May assist other disciplines with repairs to HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Operates light and heavy equipment.
  • Assembles, installs, repairs and maintains modular furniture systems.
  • Inspects new equipment to check for compliance with specifications.
  • Maintains and repairs security systems.
  • May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.
  • Oversees a preventive maintenance program.
  • Performs weekly walk-through of buildings to inspect operation of utility systems and related equipment.
