About The Position
As a General Machinist C at Lockheed Martin, you will be responsible for setting up and performing primary machining operations on various machine types, including computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines, conventional lathes, mills, machining centers, and grinders. Your role will involve working with a variety of semi-complex parts, details, and assemblies, ensuring that all machining operations are executed with precision and accuracy. You will be expected to set up machines using standard attachments and accessories, select appropriate cutters, speeds, and feeds, and work from engineering drawings, tooling drawings, and verbal instructions. In this position, you will utilize precision measuring equipment such as dial calipers, micrometers, scales, and gauges to check the machined parts against specified requirements. You will also perform routine cleaning, deburring, and rework of parts to facilitate smooth machining operations. Occasionally, you may be required to undertake more complex tasks under the guidance of a supervisor or a higher classified machinist for training purposes. Maintaining a clean and orderly work area is also a key responsibility of this role. This position operates on a second shift schedule, specifically a 4x10 hour day format, allowing for three days off per week.
