POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Kiln Supervisor, this position is responsible for preparing and installing block and refractory raw material; torch cutting metal for use on kiln cars, welding of kiln cars and other duties as needed in all areas of the plant and is responsible for supporting and demonstrating the Core Values of Integrity, Safety, Respect, Customer Focus, Quality, Innovation and Financial Success. Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to use and operate a forklift
  • Must be able to be certified as a forklift operator by the company
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with peers, customers and supervisors
  • Basic reading, writing and math skills
  • Ability to follow simple instructions
  • Predictable and Regular attendance is required, includes overtime and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and install block and refractory raw materials
  • Torch cutting metal for use on kiln cars
  • Welding on kiln cars
  • Use mason saw to adjust size of refractory raw materials and block
  • Change blades on saw as needed
  • Fix and replace bad car skirts
  • Cut and repair bad angle iron
  • Install and level car block
  • Sweep off kiln cars
  • Put insulation seal on kiln cars
  • Move cars with haulage
  • Operate transfer car
  • Move kiln cars with forklift
  • Grease kiln car wheels
  • Cleanup car repair area, car cleaner
  • All other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time by the company or its designated representative.
  • Attends safety meetings and abides by all safety rules set forth by company and governmental regulatory agencies; ensures that hazardous conditions are reported and corrected
  • Responsibilities require the successful procedure & compliance of Lock-Out/Tag-Out; you must be able to perform them flawlessly and consistently.
  • Regular attendance is required.
