A Brief Summary of this Position: This is an individual contributor position responsible for assisting with all functions preparing products and materials for the galvanizing process by hanging angle on spreader bars, staging tubular products, and preparing small parts for galvanizing for the Coatings Division. Essential functions: Inspects and ensures the safe use and disposition of production fixtures, chains and hooks Hand wires small to medium-sized parts to racks for pickling or galvanizing Pulls and places chains and ropes around steel bundles for racking Moves lightweight pieces of steel by hand from different locations in the plant and yard Performs paddling functions to enhance the quality level of the various galvanized products using air guns to blow off zinc needles Uses pneumatic or electric powered tools to help prepare or clean up steel for pickling or galvanizing Assists in general plant clean up and housekeeping Works safely (using all PPE) and prevents harm to self and others from work accidents or injuries Important details about the role: This position reports to the General Manager Contributes to general plant clean up and housekeeping Provides occasional assistance in production duties Communicates and interacts with coworkers in a positive and professional manner

Requirements

• Ability to pay attention to detail and follow written and verbal work instructions
• Ability to accurately read a tape measure
• Ability to communicate problems or needs to departmental supervision
• Ability to distinguish colors
• Ability to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment, as well as, with exposure to outdoors
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (from ground to shoulder height or higher), although most frequent lift is up to 30 pounds
• Ability to spend 75% of workday standing or walking, 10% bending or kneeling, 10% stooping, and 5% climbing
• Must wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Must maintain a high-level awareness for safety at all times
• Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
• Requires adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing of whole numbers and fractions to perform calculations and conversions to and from metric and standard measurements.
• Must possess adequate communication and interpersonal skills to successfully interact with other employees.
• Must display an aptitude for problem solving and the ability to plan for potential problems or needs.
• General Laborers must demonstrate a minimum acceptable level of equipment specific knowledge within 12 months of on-the-job experience.
• Must be able to work in high stress situations under adverse conditions for long period of time using intense mental and visual concentration.
• Good hand to eye coordination with a good sense of depth perception at all times.
• Must be able to distinguish colors.
• Requires methodical and analytical thought processes to follow complicated diagrams.
• Each employee is responsible for learning and applying all provided safety training as outlined by the company and department safety representative and / or supervisor.
• Keeping safety in the forefront in the daily performance of job duties includes personal safety, safety of others in the department and safekeeping of all company resources.
• As a General Laborer, the incumbent must complete all required safety training.
• Actively participates in department safety; demonstrates excellent safety practices and behaviors and conforms to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.
