About The Position

Smithfield Foods is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as General Laborers on the 2nd shift. This position offers a competitive starting pay of $17.10 per hour, with an additional $1.00 per hour shift differential for 2nd shift positions. Our team members are essential in handling materials and using hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment to deliver quality food products responsibly. The work is physically demanding and requires good hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, strength, and stamina. Team members must be available to work scheduled hours, which may include mandatory overtime depending on production demands.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to perform continuous/repetitive movements.
• Ability to work around animal blood and/or carcass parts.
• Ability to work with sanitation/cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to work in a wet and humid environment.
• Ability to work while wearing a hard hat, hearing/eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes.
• Ability to work around strong smells/odors.

Responsibilities

• Handle materials and use hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment.
• Perform physically demanding work that requires good hand-eye coordination.
• Follow oral and written instructions.
• Work scheduled hours, including mandatory overtime.
• Stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
• Work in cold (20-40 degrees) and warm (over 100 degrees) environments.
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) in a noisy environment.
• Climb/move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms.
• Bend, stoop, and twist repetitively over the course of an entire shift.
• Lift heavy objects, with some positions requiring overhead lifting up to 30 lbs.
