Oakland County is looking for dependable, detail-oriented team members to help keep our facilities safe, sanitary, and running smoothly every day. What You’ll Do • Sweeping, dusting, and damp/wet mopping floors • Vacuuming carpets and cleaning furniture and fixtures • Emptying wastebaskets and maintaining common areas • Cleaning, sanitizing, and restocking restroom supplies • Moving furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed • Unloading and storing custodial supply deliveries You may be assigned to a day or afternoon shift depending on operational needs. Requirements

  • Have passed their 18th birthday; OR be at least 16 years old and a high school graduate; OR have completed the state requirements for the General Educational Development Test (GED); OR be an emancipated minor.
  • Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical established for this classification.
  • NOTE: A valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license will be required for certain positions. Out of Country driver’s license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver’s license before the hire date.
  • Successfully complete the six month probationary period.
  • Ability to communicate to accurately convey information.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and/or be a passenger may be required for certain positions.

Responsibilities

  • Sweeping, dusting, and damp/wet mopping floors
  • Vacuuming carpets and cleaning furniture and fixtures
  • Emptying wastebaskets and maintaining common areas
  • Cleaning, sanitizing, and restocking restroom supplies
  • Moving furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed
  • Unloading and storing custodial supply deliveries
  • Assists higher level personnel in the repair and maintenance of County buildings
  • Removes walls, partitions, pipes and other structures in building alterations and repair
  • Transports tools and unloads equipment, supplies, tools and machinery
  • Uses hand tools to mix mortar and cement, digs and levels earth, and sand and paints surfaces
  • May drive truck to transport work crews
  • Performs various custodial duties required in the cleaning and servicing of County offices and buildings
  • May sweep and mop, vacuum carpeting, dust, clean, polish furniture and fixtures, empty wastebaskets, clean and stock lavatories with supplies; move furniture, supplies and equipment and may unload and store freight delivered to buildings
  • Performs a variety of duties related to lawn and flowerbed maintenance such as mowing, weeding, and trimming
  • During winter may remove snow and ice from sidewalks, parking lots and service drives
  • Performs entry-level unskilled manual labor in assistance of higher level Maintenance & Operations personnel
  • Work typically involves the repair and maintenance of public water systems, sewers, drains and other facilities
  • Cleans and prepares work sites
  • Cleans and assists in the maintenance and repair of machinery, tools and equipment
  • May assist in maintaining well sites, pump houses and hydrants, installing meters and cleaning sewers, drains and catch basins
  • Performs routine kennel work such as assisting animals to the detaining areas; providing animals with food and water; cleaning and disinfecting cages; assisting in euthanasia; disposing of animal carcasses; and cleaning equipment utilized
  • Observes sheltered animals behavior and reports any unusual behavior to supervisors
  • Performs entry-level routine manual tasks involved in servicing County owned vehicles in a central service garage
  • Assists in lubricating, changing oil, refueling, repairing and replacing tires, and cleaning of County vehicles
  • Maintains records of services performed, reports vehicle defects to higher level garage personnel, and may make emergency road service calls
  • Performs beginning level custodial and grounds keeping duties to maintain parks and golf course grounds and facilities in a clean and attractive condition
  • Grooms beaches, picks up grounds, empties waste containers, trims trees, cuts grass, plants and maintains flower beds, mows and/or repairs greens, cleans swimming pools and restroom facilities, waters and fertilizes grounds, and removes snow and ice from public use areas
  • Assists with maintenance of buildings and equipment
  • May assist in the operation of a central station or a golf pro shop
  • May drive various vehicles for transporting work crews, materials and equipment
  • Maintains a watch on County owned buildings under direct supervision
  • Periodically patrols assigned buildings
  • Checks for any signs of unauthorized entry, or immediate hazards such as fires or other dangers to the building security
  • Reports any problems to the appropriate authorities
  • May be assigned to perform radio communication duties
