What does a typical day look like for the General Engineer (Healthcare Engineer)? You will: Conduct Requirements Development, Design Review, and In-House Design. May provide Construction Representative Services as needed: Requirements Development – This performance will require data collection in the form of retrieval of historical documentation, physical verification of existing conditions, review and response to Requests for Information (RFIs), Building Service Equipment (BSE) specification, and Cost Estimating via RS Means or similar. It does not include capital planning actions such as creation of entries in the Strategic Capital Investment Plan (SCIP) or use of the Space and Equipment Planning System (SEPS). Design Review – This task comprises the review of A/E incremental submissions for compliance to requirements contained in the Technical Information Library (TIL) and more specifically PG-18-15 Volume C which governs submission requirements for Non-Recurring Maintenance (NRM) Projects. In-House Design – Capabilities related to drafting, development of notes, and minor specifications revisions necessary to produce a requirement in sufficient detail to inform work requirements and restrictions as well as quantitative material requirements. Work will be actioned by VA staff and hence coordination on design efforts will be extensive. Software requirements will include Autodesk applications. Construction Representative Services – Tasks are consistent with requirements in the 0809 Federal Job Series. Specific responsibilities include creation of Construction Daily Logs, Construction Safety rounding (OSHA 30 Construction Safety level), Project oversight utilizing construction documents (drawings and specifications), review of schedule compliance, review of submittals as related to jobsite materials, coordination of utility outages, preliminary review of invoicing as related to work completion, drafting and posting of compliance documentation such as Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA) and Preconstruction Risk Assessments (PCRA), review and oversight of work requiring an Activity Hazard analysis, and troubleshooting of construction site issues resulting in adjacent impacts. What qualifications do you look for? You might be the professional we’re looking for if you have: Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship. Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Architecture. ABET accredited degreed Engineer or AIA-qualified architect. Knowledge of either mechanical, electrical, structural, civil, or other engineering/architectural principles, practices, and their applications in the healthcare environment. Knowledge of basic project management principles as applied to the healthcare setting. Ability to apply healthcare engineering-related standards, codes, policies, and regulations, inclusive of state and local codes. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers with tact and diplomacy. Ability to develop material for clinical or administrative staff that addresses the principles and application of engineering technology and/or theory used in healthcare. Ability to advise staff on emerging engineering technology related to a healthcare facility, while keeping abreast of changes in such technology and utilizing the information to solve healthcare facility engineering challenges. Previous experience with the VA is a plus. If selected, candidates will need to complete credentialing and onboarding requirements consistent with VA medical staff processes.
