About The Position

The General Education Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and effective instruction to middle school and high school students within a structured residential treatment setting. Teachers support youth in developing academic skills, interpersonal abilities, and daily living competencies while maintaining a positive and structured classroom environment. This role involves lesson planning, individualized instruction, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and monitoring student progress to ensure academic and behavioral success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education required.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience working with youth preferred, particularly in environments serving students with behavioral, developmental, or learning challenges.
  • Strong classroom management and instructional skills
  • Ability to develop and adapt curriculum to meet diverse student needs
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and student records
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable
  • Able to actively engage with youth, participate in physical interventions, and transport youth or staff as needed
  • Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state
  • Must pass evaluation of physical techniques and certification exams
  • Must successfully complete required training including Universal Precautions, First Aid, CPR, and crisis intervention/restraint certification
  • Must maintain a valid state driver’s license
  • Must pass state-required criminal background screening and clearance requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Special Education certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and individualized student learning needs
  • Provide group and individualized instruction to middle and high school students
  • Adapt instructional materials and classroom strategies to support diverse learning styles and individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Monitor and assess student academic progress and provide feedback to students and staff
  • Administer assessments and developmental testing to evaluate student competency levels
  • Maintain classroom structure and supervise students in assigned instructional areas
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, clinical staff, and support personnel to address student learning and behavioral needs
  • Maintain accurate records including grades, attendance, progress reports, and behavior documentation
  • Support youth development in academic achievement, interpersonal skills, and life skills
  • Report incidents and behavioral concerns in accordance with program policies and state regulations
  • Maintain compliance with all safety, reporting, and youth protection policies
  • Maintain a high standard of role model behavior for youth
  • Participate in required training and professional development activities
  • Report any suspected or observed inappropriate youth-to-youth or staff-to-youth interactions
  • Report all incidents involving use of physical force or unusual occurrences per program guidelines
  • Support campus activities and programming as assigned
  • Perform other duties as needed to support program operations
