About The Position

General Duties & Responsibilities are not limited to the following: Meet with patients and discuss their dental health habits, problems, and concerns Use professional tools and equipment to examine and treat patients' teeth, gums, and oral tissue Diagnose dental illnesses or infections Prescribe medications for dental problems (painkillers, antibiotics) Develop treatment plans to improve patients' oral health and habits Instruct patients on proper oral care Refer patients to specialists if needed Provides general dentistry professional services to children, adults, and elderly patients at locations assigned by COLUMBIA DENTAL and in accordance with clinical standards and protocols adopted by COLUMBIA DENTAL and/or in compliance with Connecticut statutes and Federal regulations. a. Reviews medical history at every visit. b. Examines and assesses patient. Charts all pathologic conditions and reports these to the patient. c. Holds informed consent discussion with patient, documents same in the record, and assures appropriate forms are signed prior to initiating treatment. d. Documents all treatment provided in accordance with COLUMBIA DENTAL policy and procedures and signs the patient record. Assists in monitoring and directing clinical performance of dental hygienists, department support staff, and students or residents. Supervises taking of x-rays and monitors quality/procedure for x-rays and other equipment operation and procedures by assistants and recommends improvements when needed. Assists with in-service training or orientation and continuing education for dental staff. Practices in accord with OSHA guidelines and standards and complies with HIPAA regulations regarding confidentiality of patient information. Maintains all required certification and licensing

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD)
  • A state license to practice dental medicine
  • Minimum 7 years of experience
  • In-depth understanding of oral hygiene and dental procedures
  • Working experience in diagnosing illnesses and treating them
  • Ability to communicate with patients about their oral health and problems
  • Compassion and patience
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to be physically mobile (stand, walk, reach, climb, bend) and also the ability to stand for prolonged periods throughout the day/work hours when needed
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate medical equipment, keyboard, copier, telephone, and the ability to write/type
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds occasionally
