The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi is seeking a General Dentist to provide comprehensive dental care to individuals requesting care. The dentist will examine patients, diagnose dental conditions, prescribe treatments, and maintain accurate dental records. The role includes educating patients on oral health, assisting in staff training, developing dental policies, and participating in program planning. The dentist will also supervise dental staff and may need to travel for departmental needs.

  • Examine individuals requesting care and diagnose their dental/oral conditions.
  • Prescribe and carry out appropriate dental/oral treatment or refer individuals for specialty consultation.
  • Record patient-dentist transactions in the patient's dental record.
  • Educate individuals on oral health and disease prevention.
  • Assist in the provision of continuing education and orientation of staff.
  • Design, develop, and implement dental policies and procedures.
  • Assist in preparing and overseeing the dental unit's operating budget.
  • Participate in program planning for the dental unit.
  • Provide consultation regarding dental and oral health issues.
  • Travel as necessary to fulfill departmental needs.
  • Assist in developing the department's dental health care plan.
  • Coordinate dental programs with other department services.
  • Perform evaluations of dental staff as directed.
  • Supervise, advise, counsel, and discipline dental staff.
  • Graduation from an accredited dental school with an unrestricted license to practice dentistry in Michigan.
  • Completion of an accredited general practice residency program.
  • Possess a DEA license.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care in outpatient settings.
  • Knowledge of modern dentistry principles related to public health organizations.
  • Ability to work creatively with other health care professionals.
  • Understanding of Native American culture and customs.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation and drug screening.
  • Ability to become CPR/First Aid certified.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, including HIPAA requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal/human relation skills.
  • May be eligible for student loan reimbursement through Indian Health Service or National Health Service Corps.
