The General Counsel serves as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to the Executive Director, President and executive leadership team. This hands-on role leads a small legal team and provides pragmatic, business-oriented counsel on a wide range of legal, compliance, and risk management matters. The GC actively participates in strategic planning and decision-making, ensuring legal considerations align with business objectives and growth strategies. Responsibilities include corporate governance, compliance, commercial transactions, employment law, litigation, and day-to-day contracting. The GC will also support business development initiatives and interact with the Board and ownership on strategic matters. This role is based in Orlando, FL.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited, competitive law school.
  • Minimum 15 years of combined major law firm and in-house experience; hospitality industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong background in litigation, commercial contracting, employment law, and licensing.
  • High-level understanding of financial, business, and strategic considerations.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a hands-on, pragmatic approach.
  • Proven track record of developing creative, practical solutions to complex issues.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Growth mindset and commitment to developing talent.
  • Alignment with MasterCorp’s core values and entrepreneurial culture.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the President, executive team, and executive director on legal, compliance, and risk-related matters.
  • Provide advice and counsel to the Board of Directors and President on corporate governance matters.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a small legal team, fostering a culture of collaboration and growth.
  • Proactively identify legal and compliance risks and develop pragmatic, risk-based mitigation strategies.
  • Lead compliance programs and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements across the organization.
  • Negotiate, draft, and review complex commercial contracts; support critical business negotiations.
  • Provide guidance on litigation, employment law, licensing, and other operational legal issues.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to enable strategic initiatives and business development efforts.
  • Support future growth strategies with sound legal counsel and risk management.
