General Construction Engineer / Estimator

About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Construction Engineer / Estimator with a strong background in infrastructure and heavy civil construction. This full-time position focuses on mass grading, wet utilities, and paving projects, supporting commercial and public infrastructure development throughout the Richardson, TX area.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in cost estimating, civil plan analysis, quantity takeoffs, and field coordination for horizontal construction projects. This role is centered on site development and infrastructure work, not vertical residential construction.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in construction estimating or construction engineering within heavy civil or infrastructure projects
• Direct experience with mass grading, wet utility systems, and roadway paving
• Strong understanding of earthwork calculations, trenching, pipe installation, and site development methods
• Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software (PlanSwift, Bluebeam, HCSS, Procore, or similar)
• Ability to read and interpret civil engineering and site development drawings
• Familiarity with municipal construction standards and infrastructure regulations
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate with subcontractors, engineers, inspectors, and internal teams

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and quantity takeoffs for mass grading, water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and paving projects
• Review and interpret civil engineering drawings, site development plans, and utility layouts
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids for earthwork, underground utilities, and roadway scopes
• Develop and maintain project budgets and cost tracking reports
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams to align estimates with actual production activities
• Support value engineering initiatives to improve cost efficiency across grading and infrastructure scopes
• Assist with permit documentation and municipal compliance requirements
• Maintain accurate documentation for estimates, contracts, change orders, and project records
• Ensure alignment with local municipal infrastructure standards and regulations
