About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Ability to lift/carry 1 – 30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash.
  • Ability to push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, drapes.
  • Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout shift.
  • Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves.
  • Ability to reach, handle, grasp and finger while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout shift.
  • Ability to use sight in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards.
  • Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting of surfaces above shoulder height (lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges) using a treated high duster.
  • Clean the high duster by gently brushing it in a downward direction into a service cart.
  • Sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trashcans) using a germicidal solution.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using proper solution.
  • Spot clean windows using proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms, including above and below sink, toilet seat, outside of toilet bowl, and inside of toilet with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution.
  • Clean and check soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily, refilling as needed.
  • Empty trash cans, removing liners, wiping cans if liquid is present, and replacing with clean liners.
  • Dust mop floors using a treated dust mophead, covering under all furniture and in restrooms.
  • Clean the mophead with a counter brush and dispose of dust onto a dustpan and into the service cart.
  • Vacuum floors, starting from the back of the room and working toward the door, ensuring under chairs and other furniture are cleaned.
  • Clean and check outside areas several times daily.
  • Empty and clean ash urns and trash cans in outside areas.
  • Police sidewalks, flower beds, and curb line for trash and cigarette butts.
  • Spot clean spills on sidewalks.
  • Remove gum with a scraper.
  • Wipe benches and vending machines.
  • Wipe lower window ledges.
  • High dust for dust and cobwebs in outside areas.
  • Clean public area glass as necessary.
  • Police parking lot for trash.
  • Dust mop and spot mop main hallways in public common areas.
  • Clean glass in public common areas several times daily.
  • Clean planters and ensure they are free from bird waste inside and out.
  • Check for cobwebs and perform high dusting of window areas at least two times per week, checking all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and other foreign debris.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court.
  • Place chairs back under tables in the food court.
  • Spot clean for spills in the food court.
  • Empty and clean trash cans in the food court.
  • Remove accumulated dirty trays to the washroom and clean using a tray power washer.
  • Stack clean trays on shelves for recycled use.
  • Police outside eating areas.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room, mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting.
  • Knock lightly on doors before entering if occupied.
  • Be friendly and cheerful to customers.
  • Answer customer questions in a helpful, courteous manner or refer them to someone who can.
  • Report anything broken or out of order in the room to the supervisor.
  • Work quietly and speak quietly, trying to reduce or eliminate noise.
  • Stay in the assigned work area unless requested to go elsewhere by the supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance while on the job.
  • Report to the supervisor if the work assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Be courteous.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, including but not limited to floor care (stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
