About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment. This role involves comprehensive cleaning duties across various sections of the facility, including high dusting, sanitizing, spot cleaning, bathroom maintenance, trash removal, floor care (dusting, vacuuming, sanitizing), and grounds care. The cleaner is also responsible for maintaining public common areas and the food court, ensuring cleanliness and order. Customer relations and service are also a part of the role, requiring courteous interaction and reporting of issues to supervisors. The position may also involve specialized floor care tasks like stripping, waxing, carpet extraction, and buffing.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Kneeling/crouching/crawling while cleaning lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Reaching, handling, grasping and fingering while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Overhead reaching required throughout shift.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Sight – in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting on surfaces above shoulder height, including lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Clean the high duster by gently brushing it in a downward direction into the service cart.
  • Sanitize surfaces below shoulder height, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trashcans, using a germicidal solution.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using proper solution.
  • Spot clean windows using proper solution.
  • Wipe down above and below sinks, toilet seats, and the outside of toilet bowls using germicidal solution.
  • Clean the inside of toilets with a Johnnie Mop and proper germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim.
  • Clean and check soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily, refilling as needed.
  • Empty trash cans; if liquid is inside, remove the liner, wipe the trash can, and place a clean liner.
  • Dust floors using a treated dust mophead, starting at the back of the room and using the "S" stroke to catch dust, including under all furniture and in restrooms.
  • Clean the mophead with a counter brush, sweep up dust onto a dustpan, and dispose of it into the service cart.
  • Vacuum floors, starting at the back of the room and working toward the door, ensuring to clean under chairs and other furniture.
  • Clean and check outside areas several times during the day.
  • Empty and clean ash urns and trash cans in outside areas.
  • Police sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts.
  • Spot clean spills on sidewalks and remove gum with a scraper.
  • Wipe benches and vending machines.
  • Wipe lower window ledges and high dust for dust and cobwebs in outside areas.
  • Clean public area glass as necessary.
  • Police parking lot for trash.
  • Dust mop and spot mop the main hallways in public common areas.
  • Clean glass in public common areas several times during the day.
  • Clean planters and ensure they are free from bird waste inside and out.
  • Check for cobwebs and perform high dusting of window areas at least two times per week, checking all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and other foreign debris.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court.
  • Place chairs back under tables in the food court.
  • Spot clean for spills in the food court.
  • Empty and clean trash cans in the food court.
  • Remove accumulated dirty trays to the wash room and clean using a tray power washer.
  • Stack clean trays on the shelf for recycled use.
  • Police outside eating areas.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors as you back out.
  • Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting.
  • Knock lightly on doors before entering, if occupied.
  • Be friendly and cheerful to customers, answering questions in a helpful, courteous manner or referring them to someone who can.
  • Report anything broken or out of order in the room to your supervisor.
  • Work quietly and speak quietly, trying to reduce or eliminate noise.
  • Stay in your assigned work area unless requested to go elsewhere by your supervisor.
  • Always maintain a clean and neat personal appearance while on the job.
  • Report to your supervisor if you have not completed your work assignment by the end of your shift.
  • Always be courteous.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager (this could include, but is not limited to, floor care – stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
