About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in clean, sanitary and orderly condition and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Operating powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Lifting/carrying 1 – 30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Climbing stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, drapes.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck throughout shift.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Kneeling/crouching/crawling while cleaning lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Reaching, handling, grasping and fingering while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Overhead reaching required throughout shift.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Sight – in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include: Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting of surfaces above shoulder height, including lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges, using a treated high duster.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height, such as ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trashcans, using a germicidal solution.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls, and spot clean windows.
  • Clean bathrooms, including above and below sinks, toilet seats, outside of toilet bowls, and inside of toilet bowls with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim.
  • Clean and check soap and paper dispensers daily, refilling as needed.
  • Empty trash cans, wiping them if liquid is present, and replacing liners.
  • Dust mop floors using an “S” stroke, cleaning under all furniture and in restrooms, and cleaning the mophead into a service cart.
  • Vacuum floors, starting at the back of the room and working toward the door, ensuring cleaning under chairs and other furniture.
  • Perform grounds care for outside areas: empty and clean ash urns and trash cans, police sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot clean spills on sidewalks, remove gum with a scraper, wipe benches and vending machines, wipe lower window ledges, high dust for dust and cobwebs, clean public area glass as necessary, and police parking lots for trash.
  • Maintain public common areas: dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass several times daily, clean planters and ensure they are free from bird waste, and check for cobwebs/perform high dusting of window areas at least two times per week, checking all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and other foreign debris.
  • Clean food court areas: clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables, place chairs back under tables, spot clean for spills, empty and clean trash cans, remove accumulated dirty trays to the washroom, clean trays using a tray power washer, stack clean trays on shelves for recycled use, and police outside eating areas.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Conduct a visual inspection after completing a room, reviewing cleaning steps and checking furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
  • Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting.
  • Practice customer relations and service: knock lightly on doors before entering if occupied, be friendly and cheerful to customers, answer questions courteously or refer them to someone who can, report anything broken or out of order to the supervisor, work quietly and speak quietly, reduce or eliminate noise, stay in the assigned work area unless requested elsewhere by the supervisor, maintain a clean and neat personal appearance, and report to the supervisor if work assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, including but not limited to floor care (stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
