About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, ensuring they are kept in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves a wide range of janitorial tasks, including detailed cleaning of various surfaces, sanitizing specific areas like bathrooms and food courts, maintaining floors, and performing grounds care. The cleaner is also expected to uphold customer relations standards and report any issues to a supervisor.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Ability to lift/carry 1 – 30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash.
  • Ability to push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas and drapes.
  • Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout shift.
  • Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas and retrieving supplies from lower shelves.
  • Ability to reach, handle, grasp and finger while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout shift.
  • Ability to use sight in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, requiring depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting of surfaces above shoulder height, including lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges, using a treated high duster.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height, such as ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trashcans, using a germicidal solution.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls, and spot clean windows.
  • Clean bathrooms by wiping above and below sinks, toilet seats, and the outside of toilet bowls with germicidal solution, and cleaning the inside of toilets with a Johnnie Mop.
  • Check and refill soap and paper dispensers daily in bathrooms.
  • Empty trash cans, wiping them if liquid is present, and replacing liners.
  • Dust or vacuum floors using a treated dust mophead or vacuum cleaner, ensuring to clean under furniture and in restrooms.
  • Perform grounds care by emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans in outside areas.
  • Police sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts.
  • Spot clean spills on sidewalks, remove gum with a scraper, wipe benches and vending machines, and clean lower window ledges.
  • High dust for dust and cobwebs and clean public area glass as necessary in outside areas.
  • Police parking lots for trash.
  • Dust mop and spot mop main hallways in public common areas.
  • Clean glass in public common areas several times daily.
  • Clean planters and ensure they are free from bird waste.
  • Check for cobwebs and perform high dusting of window areas at least twice per week in public common areas.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables.
  • Spot clean for spills in the food court.
  • Empty and clean trash cans in the food court.
  • Remove accumulated dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays for recycled use.
  • Police outside eating areas.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting.
  • Knock lightly on doors before entering occupied rooms.
  • Be friendly and cheerful to customers, answering questions courteously or referring them to appropriate personnel.
  • Report anything broken or out of order in a room to the supervisor.
  • Work quietly and speak quietly, reducing or eliminating noise.
  • Stay in the assigned work area unless requested to go elsewhere by a supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance while on the job.
  • Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor and/or Account Manager, including floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
