About The Position

Performs general repair and maintenance of architectural and structural systems in county buildings. Items such as doors, windows, floors, walls, ceiling stairs, office furniture, shelving, roof repairs and other related work. Safely operates, cleans, maintains and stores a variety of stationery and hand tools, inspects facilities to identify architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing deficiencies, also conducts building safety inspections. Prepares work requests for all necessary architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs and maintenance, coordinates with facility users to correct deficiencies in building systems. A flexible working schedule is required as well as overtime, call-back, and on-call. Note: This position is designated as Essential Personnel. Requirements

  • General knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods, practices and tools used in the building maintenance and construction trades
  • Knowledge of the common hazards and necessary safety precautions
  • Skill in the use of tools, equipment, materials pertinent to the trades
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions, diagrams and manufacturers manuals
  • Ability to maintain good in interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on a County motor vehicle.
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the tenth grade; plus completion of an acceptable apprentice-level training program in a specific trade with one year of experience performing building maintenance, repair and/or construction work independently, or two years of varied and responsible full performance-level experience in building maintenance, repair or construction trades.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check, and pre-employment medical evaluation to the satisfaction of the employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years or more of commercial building maintenance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and painting in commercial buildings.
  • Ability to maintain records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of basic safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance principles, practices, materials, and equipment.
