About The Position

Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Gender & Women's Studies. This is a full-time position beginning July 1, 2026. The Department of Gender & Women's Studies (GWS) educates and empowers students through a vibrant, interdisciplinary network of courses, hands-on and study-away experiences, and leadership training. Students are earnest, highly motivated, and deeply invested in community care. GWS graduates have found careers in politics and law, healthcare and science, and the arts and have found success in graduate and professional schools. GWS faculty have a collaborative spirit and are active at all levels of the university. Students are supported through mentoring, advising, and experiential learning opportunities, as well as from each other through professional development and intellectual community. This position carries a teaching load of six courses per academic year or equivalent, and the new faculty member must be prepared to teach introductory and advanced courses within GWS.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Gender, Women's, Sexuality, or Feminist Studies or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly research and/or creative work.
  • Experience with transnational and diasporic feminisms, queer of color critique, comparative critical race theory, and/or post/decolonial studies.
  • Familiarity with feminist theoretical frameworks.
  • Ability to explore complexities of identity, discourse, corporeality, and embodiment.

  • Program for student recruitment and retention.
  • Advise students and participate in curriculum and community development.
