About The Position

To aid identified students ages sixteen to twenty-two, consistent with his or her abilities and educational needs, to complete the requirements for the Individualized Student Alternative Education Plan (ISAEP) program culminating with the successful completion of the GED examination. This position is itinerant. Cohorts of candidates are admitted six times per year with 5-weeks of GED preparation per cohort with testing held in the final week.

Requirements

  • Must possess good moral character.
  • Must possess at a minimum a bachelor’s degree.
  • Competency in the subject(s) included on the GED examination.
  • Must have met the Virginia Department of Education requirements to possess a Virginia Teaching

Nice To Haves

  • GED experience preferred.
  • Experience in computer technology preferred or desirable and/or willing to pursue appropriate technology training as required by position.
  • Fluency with Spanish is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide programmatic consultations, including enrollment procedures if appropriate.
  • Engage in curriculum development, evaluation of students’ progress, and accurate maintenance of all students’ records.
  • Provide classroom instruction in one or more of the following areas: math, reading, writing, science, and social studies.
  • Develop an individualized course of study for each ISAEP/GED student, based on the areas in which the student needs instruction or remediation.
  • Evaluate and track students’ academic progress regularly, using standardized assessment tools.
  • Classroom instruction should be interactive and incorporate a variety of teaching techniques, materials, and resources, always keeping in mind the ultimate goal of students’ success on the GED exam.
  • Maintain current records on all students, to include, accurate attendance records, GED applications, TABE answer sheets, and any court reports.
  • Organize and maintain class areas, including equipment and materials.
  • Display a positive attitude with all students and staff; act as a supportive team member in a collaborative environment.
