About The Position

The GED Instructor at LAYC/MMYC is responsible for providing educational services to youth aged 16 to 24, focusing on reconnecting them to educational, workforce, and community-based services. This role involves developing engaging curriculum, utilizing various teaching methods, and ensuring that students' diverse learning needs are met. The instructor will work closely with case managers and other staff to support youth in achieving their educational goals and accessing additional services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, Human Services, or related field.
  • Experience in teaching, tutoring, or providing educational services to youth.
  • Knowledge of popular education and/or critical pedagogy.
  • Working knowledge of GED 2014 official testing.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to develop relationships with diverse educational, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
  • Complete criminal and child abuse/neglect clearances.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and develop engaging curriculum frameworks for GED classes.
  • Instruct students using various teaching methods such as popular education and differentiated instruction.
  • Offer individual and small group tutoring hours.
  • Assist with the recruitment and retention of participants for the GED classes.
  • Plan and supervise culturally relevant class projects and experiential activities.
  • Administer GED Ready practice tests and placement testing.
  • Assist students in registering for the official GED examination.
  • Input data weekly and maintain accurate progress reports for all youth.
  • Develop positive relationships and maintain regular communication with students and staff.
  • Coordinate education and employment-related information and services for students.
  • Attend professional meetings and workshops for professional development.
  • Adhere to all LAYC personnel policies and complete assigned duties.
