About The Position

Performs a variety of gear finishing operations, which cannot be performed by machine. Hand grinds and hand finishes all types of gears, splines and sprockets, manufactured in the gear section to required tolerance. Using hand or bench type power tools breaks sharp edges, deburrs, chamfers, forms radii and finishes gears to blueprint specifications or verbal instructions.

Requirements

  • One year of machine shop experience or one year of hand finishing of machined parts.
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Hand grind and hand finish all types of gears, splines, and sprockets to required tolerance.
  • Select proper grinding wheels and abrasive material for hand finishing each gear tooth.
  • Use hand or bench type power tools to break sharp edges, deburr, chamfer, form radii, and finish gears.
  • Make salvage repairs and correct inspection rejects in finishing all types of gears, splines, and sprockets.
  • Etch, stamp, or mark work for identification.
