The GE9X Design Engineering team is looking for experienced mechanical design engineers ready to work on the largest and most powerful commercial aircraft engine in the world – the GE9X – as we progress toward entry into service on Boeing’s 777X aircraft. Within GE9X Design Engineering, the Design Staff Engineer will support efforts focused on product durability, validation, and entry into service preparations. At this key pre-EIS phase of the GE9X program, it is critical that the team is prepared to identify and execute solutions to improve durability within the high pressure compressor (HPC). In this role, you will take charge recognizing and completing validation activities, owning repair substantiation efforts, supporting leading indicator programs and partnering with product support engineering for implementation. It is through your efforts that the GE9X program will be well positioned for a successful entry into service. In this role, you will have some autonomy to focus on the execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. As a senior professional staff engineer on the GE9X HPC team, your judgement will be paramount in the success of the desired team outcomes which will require you to have the ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters with advice from your peers. The GE9X HPC airfoils team lead role will build and leverage multiple skill sets including project execution, technical leadership, analysis, and design.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical Engineering or Aeronautical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Mechanical Design function
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Therefore, employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove that you meet the status of a U.S. Person as one of the following: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. Citizen, have been granted asylee or refugee status (i.e., a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.

  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
