About The Position

Responsible for the supervision of swimming beach entrances and checking for valid admission passes/tickets.

Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Available to work from May 23 - September 7, 2026
  • Pass both the Criminal and DCFS background checks
  • Pass drug and alcohol screen
  • Interview
  • Up to 6 hours of staff training
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
  • Ability to read staff manuals, memoranda, and attendance sheets.
  • Ability to complete daily log sheets, accident reports, incident reports, jump reports, first-aid reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, and style.
  • Ability to give verbal direction to subordinates, communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, citizens, and the public as well as other employers; speaking extemporaneously on a variety of subjects.
  • Completed at least 1 year of high school
  • Complete all preseason training
  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly in order to move objects

  • Ability to lift, kneel, bend, stand for long periods of time, identify or distinguish colors, and work outdoors at night with limited lighting
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions such as rain, high temperatures, and humidity. Work environment includes beaches, recreation centers, multipurpose rooms, swimming pools, athletic fields, parks, playgrounds, and office space.
  • The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions approximately 5% of the time and outside work 95% of the time with no effective protection from weather conditions or temperature changes.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the supervision of the admittance guidelines for entrance to swimming beaches, boat launches, and/or dog beach.
  • Collect physical or digital daily passes and check season passes at the beach entrances.
  • Sell daily tickets via a Clover device or direct patrons on how to buy passes through Amilia.
  • Know and enforce all rules and regulations pertaining to the admittance to the beach and general Evanston Lakefront.
  • Responsible for care and maintenance of gate attendant equipment including electronic payment devices.
  • Attend staff training sessions and staff meetings as scheduled by supervisors and program coordinator.
  • Responsible for effective and appropriate communication to patrons.
  • Maintains a clean and safe beach environment.
  • You must have the ability to work May 23-August 31, 2026 including weekends and afternoon/evening shifts once school begins. If you have after school commitments in the fall, this must be communicated before the start of the season.
