About The Position

A GI (Gastrointestinal) technician supports endoscopic procedures and patient care in gastroenterology departments. The GI Tech has daily tasks that involve preparing and maintaining endoscopic equipment, ensuring all tools are sterilized and functional. The Technician assist physicians during procedures like colonoscopies and endoscopies, handing instruments and managing specimen collection for lab analysis. GI technicians also monitor patient vital signs, offer pre- and post-procedural care, and provide instructions to patients regarding recovery and care protocols. The GI Tech role requires excellent organizational skills, knowledge of infection control practices, and the ability to communicate effectively with both patients and healthcare team members to ensure smooth, efficient procedural outcomes. Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • BCLS (AHA) upon hire and maintain current.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate of Science in surgical technology or related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in the gastroenterology field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing patients for endoscopic procedures.
  • Set up and maintain endoscopy equipment, ensuring it is clean, safe, and functioning properly.
  • Assist gastroenterologists and nurses during procedures, providing instruments and supplies as needed.
  • Monitor and document patient vital signs, alerting the team to any changes.
  • Ensure sterilization and cleanliness of instruments and procedure rooms following infection control protocols.
  • Educate and provide instructions to patients on post-procedure care and necessary follow-up.
  • Collaborate with other GI Techs and staff to maintain a smooth workflow and high standard of care.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and prepare orders as required.
