Requirements

  • Masters of Physician Assistant Studies or Masters of Nurse Practitioner or similar degree conferred by an accredited program.
  • One year of experience working in general or other surgical subspecialty, emergency/inpatient medicine, or comparable experience.
  • Current NP or PA license in appropriate state.
  • Registry required with state medical board.
  • Current DEA registry.
  • ACLS (not required for in-office only NP/PA) and BLS Required.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 to 5 years experience preferred.
  • Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.
  • Proficient in the performance of clinic and bedside general surgery procedures.
  • Comfortable working in the operating room, clinic, and surgical wards.
  • Thorough skill in obtaining a surgical history and conducting a physical examination.
  • Ability to write complete daily progress notes, consultation notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written, general computer knowledge is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, yet in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and care team.
  • Ability to use problem-solving, decision-making, and creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing clinical environment.
  • Must participate in call rotation.
