About The Position

PeaceHealth is seeking a BC/BE Gastroenterologist to join our team in Bellingham, Washington. This position is open to both new and experienced physicians, and while advanced fellowship training would be advantageous, it is not a strict requirement. The successful candidate will join a team of four Gastroenterologists, a per diem Gastroenterologist, a skilled GI-trained Physician Assistant, and a Nurse Practitioner. The role is primarily consultative, with shared community call responsibilities alongside another local practice. A dedicated GI Hospitalist is available to lessen the call burden typically faced by traditional practice GI physicians. As part of a large medical center, the Gastroenterologist will benefit from established infrastructure and will serve as a regional referral center for complicated biliary cases. The position offers the opportunity to be part of a physician-driven GI collaborative aimed at standardizing clinical guidelines and practices. General GI call will be shared among the Gastroenterologists, and outreach locations will be available, allowing the physician to care for patients on Washington state's beautiful San Juan Island or in Ketchikan, Alaska. The practice is supported by experienced staff, including a clinic manager with GI/Endoscopy experience as an RN, and a variety of GI specialists who are both new and experienced, fostering a collegial and enjoyable work environment. PeaceHealth boasts a large network of specialists and a robust primary care team, along with a 24/7 hospitalist service. The emphasis is on providing excellent medicine with continuity of care from inpatient to outpatient settings, utilizing EPIC EMR with Provation for endoscopy procedure reporting. PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center is a 253-bed Level II Trauma Center and the only hospital in Whatcom County, providing comprehensive and specialty care to the communities of Northwest Washington. The facility has earned recognition as a top-ranking institution for patient quality initiatives in Washington State. The compensation package is competitive, including hourly/shift compensation and paid malpractice insurance. Bellingham, Washington, offers a perfect blend of outdoor recreation, urban living, strong schools, and a vibrant cultural scene. The city is surrounded by stunning scenery, from the sea to the mountains and the rainforest, making it an ideal place to live. With a rich art, music, and cultural scene, Bellingham is acclaimed for its small-city flavor and is home to Western Washington University and two community colleges. The area provides unlimited opportunities for outdoor activities, including hiking, camping, water sports, and snow sports, making it a desirable community as recognized by various publications.
