About The Position

We made history and now we work to transform the future – for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters. In this position... As the Supervisor of the Gasoline Emissions Systems & Development section within Research & Advanced Engineering (R&A), team of systems and calibration engineers responsible for the end-to-end development of next-generation emissions systems. Your team’s mission is to define, design, and demonstrate the capability of gasoline Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), Hybrid (HEV), and Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) applications to meet the world’s most stringent ultra-low emission targets (SULEV20, SULEV15, and SULEV10). This role sits at the intersection of hardware integration and advanced calibration, requiring a leader who can navigate complex technical trade-offs between emissions, fuel economy, and vehicle drivability while ensuring systems engineering rigor from concept to prototype demonstration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related Systems Engineering field.
  • 10+ years of experience in propulsion systems, emissions aftertreatment, or powertrain calibration.
  • 2+ years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role, managing technical engineering teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering with a focus on Emissions, Controls, or Propulsion.
  • Demonstrated experience with propulsion systems (i.e. ICE & xHEV) calibration and calibration tools (e.g., ATI, ETAS).
  • Strong understanding of gasoline engine operating fundamentals and hybrid propulsion controls.
  • Working knowledge of Systems Engineering principles (DFMEA, P-Diagrams) and regulatory requirements/procedures.
  • Hands-on experience with CAN communication, data acquisition systems, and electrical/mechanical troubleshooting of prototype vehicles.
  • Expertise in SULEV10/15/20 emissions standards and the unique challenges of HEV/PHEV thermal management.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-domain technical trade-offs involving mechanical, electrical, and chemical systems.
  • Strong project management skills within the GTDS or equivalent product development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • System Concept & Integration: Lead the definition, design, and integration of new emissions concepts, including hardware, controls, and packaging across the engine, transmission, generator, and aftertreatment domains.
  • Advanced Calibration & Capability: Oversee the development and demonstration of system capabilities to deliver emissions targets alongside other vehicle attributes. Lead the team in establishing preferred values for control variables via CAE and physical testing.
  • Project Leadership: Manage workstreams and project deliverables within the Global Technical Development System (GTDS) framework to ensure research goals are met on schedule.
  • Attribute Trade-off Management: Direct sensitivity studies and trade-offs between competing attributes such as fuel economy, performance, and driveability using Design of Experiments (DOE) methods and hybrid operating strategies.
  • Systems Engineering & Quality: Ensure the development of high-quality systems engineering documentation, including Boundary Diagrams, P-Diagrams, and Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Testing & Validation: Supervise development testing across various platforms, including engine, powertrain, and hub dynamometers, as well as vehicle and virtual (analytical) simulations.
  • Prototype Commissioning: Lead the team in the hands-on commissioning of prototype systems on dynamometers and in development vehicles, including troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, and CAN communication issues.

Benefits

  • Immediate medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage
  • Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child care and more
  • Family building benefits including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, fertility treatments, and more
  • Vehicle discount program for employees and family members and management leases
  • Tuition assistance
  • Established and active employee resource groups
  • Paid time off for individual and team community service
  • A generous schedule of paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day
  • Paid time off and the option to purchase additional vacation time.
