About The Position

The Gas Technician is responsible for the monitoring, operation, maintenance, and documentation of the landfill gas (LFG) collection and control system at a non-hazardous municipal solid waste landfill. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, while supporting efficient landfill operations and maintaining the integrity of environmental controls.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree or technical training in environmental science, industrial maintenance, or a related field a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer proficiency for data entry and report writing.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain the landfill gas collection system, including wells, headers, condensate sumps, flares, and related components.
  • Conduct routine inspections and adjustments to optimize gas collection system performance and compliance.
  • Collect and record data such as vacuum pressures, flow rates, temperatures, and methane concentrations using gas analyzers and field instrumentation.
  • Identify and repair minor leaks or deficiencies in the gas collection system.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on gas system components such as valves, piping, and flare systems.
  • Work with contractors and engineers for larger repairs, expansions, or construction projects related to the gas system.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting by providing accurate and timely data.
  • Support odor control efforts by identifying potential sources and making system adjustments.
  • Maintain daily logs, inspection records, and maintenance reports.
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Communicate effectively with site staff, environmental personnel, and regulators when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
