About The Position

ConocoPhillips’ Commercial business is responsible for marketing the company’s global production and engaging in third-party marketing and trading. The Global Gas and Power (GG&P) Business Unit delivers a competitive advantage for ConocoPhillips through industry leadership, first-in-class customer service, and unmatched operational reliability. GG&P is responsible for improving realized margins for ConocoPhillips’ growing portfolio and managing a sizeable third-party marketing and trading business. We are seeking an experienced Gas Originator with a primary focus on serving power generation customers across the Lower 48. This role will be responsible for originating, structuring, negotiating, and executing natural gas supply transactions that support power plant fuel needs, portfolio optimization, and long-term commercial objectives. The ideal candidate brings deep relationships with power customers, a strong understanding of gas and power market fundamentals, and the ability to originate value across both short-term and long-term deal structures.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Math, Science, or another related or foreign equivalent
  • 7 or more years of experience in commercial origination, commercial negotiations, or related energy marketing/trading activity
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodations) to travel 25% domestically across the Lower 48 United States
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodations) to work bid week and some weekends and holidays
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodations) to address business needs after hour

Nice To Haves

  • Direct origination experience in ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, CAISO, or WECC.
  • Familiarity with tolling agreements, structured power and gas products, or asset optimization.
  • Existing network of power generation customer relationships across the Lower 48.
  • Working knowledge of North American natural gas and power market fundamentals
  • Advanced knowledge of risk management concepts and tools (as applied to commercial structuring and deal terms)
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS O365 applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook, and Teams
  • Recognized industry leadership
  • Ability to build relationships and provide outstanding customer service to internal and external stakeholders
  • History of delivering on commitments
  • Capable of anticipating problems, making decisions, and executing plans

Responsibilities

  • Providing a reliable market for ConocoPhillips’ growing natural gas production
  • Developing, maintaining, and growing long-lasting strategic customer relationships
  • Overseeing all aspects of the deal making process, including analysis, due diligence, negotiation, and execution
  • Originating natural gas transactions with a primary focus on power generation customers, including IPPs, utilities, and municipal/co-op power providers.
  • Developing and managing a portfolio of gas supply opportunities across key U.S. producing and consuming regions.
  • Structuring and executing a range of commercial products, including: Physical gas supply agreements Term and seasonal contracts Index-based and fixed-price structures Basis, transport, and asset-backed transactions
  • Working closely with power origination, trading, and analytics teams to align gas supply solutions with power market needs with a focus on Power Tolling agreements.
  • Ensuring trades and corresponding confirmations accurately reflect the agreed upon commercial terms
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders across the Power desk, and regional gas desks, as applicable
