About The Position

The Gas Meter Painter is responsible for preparing, painting, and maintaining the exterior appearance and visibility of utility meters and related equipment. This role ensures meters are properly marked, protected from corrosion, and compliant with company and regulatory standards. The position involves outdoor work in varying weather conditions and requires attention to detail, safety awareness, and physical stamina.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment screenings: drug test, background check, and driving record
  • Must be able to walk up to 10-15 miles per day, outdoors in all-weather environments
  • Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs. of force unassisted.
  • Previous painting, maintenance, or utility-related experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of surface preparation and painting techniques
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and quality of work
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Successfully complete the company’s training program and pass applicable written and field tests
  • Learn and apply safety measure relating to motor vehicle operation and other field related matters

Nice To Haves

  • Previous painting, maintenance, or utility-related experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Clean, prepare, and paint utility meters, meter boxes, pipes, and related equipment
  • Apply coatings, primers, and paints according to specifications and safety guidelines
  • Ensure proper color coding, labeling, and visibility of meters
  • Inspect meters and surrounding areas for damage, corrosion, or safety issues and report findings
  • Use hand tools, brushes, rollers, and spray equipment safely and effectively
  • Follow all safety procedures, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in good working condition
  • Complete required documentation, work orders, and reports accurately
  • Coordinate with supervisors, inspectors, and other field personnel as needed
  • Comply with all company policies, environmental regulations, and local codes
  • All other duties as assigned
