As a Community Builder with the City of Gainesville, you will engage in responsible journey-level technical work focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electric and gas distribution systems. This role is crucial for enhancing the community's infrastructure and ensuring the safety and reliability of utility services. You will work under limited supervision, reporting to a designated supervisor, and will be expected to apply your intermediate technical skills and construction knowledge to various tasks. Your contributions will directly impact the lives of your neighbors, making this position more than just a job; it is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the community you live in. In this role, you will be responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing energized underground and overhead distribution systems of 600 volts or less, as well as pressurized gas distribution systems of 60 psig or less. You will also be involved in the installation of single-phase electric meters and telecommunication systems, ensuring compliance with specifications and utility standards. Your work will require you to operate various motor-operated construction equipment and respond to emergency situations related to gas and electric services. Additionally, you will maintain qualifications for all covered tasks required to construct, maintain, and repair gas facilities under federal regulations. The position requires a commitment to safety and adherence to all regulations, as you will be working in potentially hazardous environments. You will also be expected to participate in the GRU Progression Through Training Program for the Line Technician classification, which will further enhance your skills and career development within the city’s utility services.
