The apprentice program gives diesel mechanics hands-on experience with light, medium, and heavy trucks, teaching them how to inspect, repair, and maintain diesel engines and their mechanical components. This apprenticeship prepares technicians for work as a diesel mechanic through training hours in a repair shop under an experienced mechanic, as well as more formal instruction in a classroom setting. The role offers a clear career path and long-term on-the-job training within a stable, well-equipped shop environment, working on industry-leading Isuzu and Hino trucks, supported by a team culture focused on safety, training, and growth.

Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and use hands to handle, finger or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Occasionally the employee must kneel, or crouch.
  • The employee must occasionally exert or lift to 75 pounds.
  • Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision.
  • Control Precision - the ability to adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle quickly and repeatedly to exact positions.
  • Arm-Hand Steadiness - the ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Manual Dexterity - the ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Multilimb Coordination - the ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.

Responsibilities

  • Documents actions by completing records.
  • Maintains quality service by following repair standards.
  • Maintains tools and equipment by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains safe work environment by adhering to work standards and practices.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in hands on training and educational opportunities; reading manufacturers' specifications.
  • Enhances organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance Services (PM) and PM related repairs with supervision such as but not limited to oil changes, change tires, balance tires, lube chassis, repair lights (trucks & trailers), adjust brakes, clutches, replace fan belts, etc.
