About The Position

Gas Operations oversees the natural gas transmission and distribution operations. The team maintains and operates 6,700 miles of gas transmission pipeline, 43,000 miles of distribution main, 3.6 million gas services, three PG&E-owned storage facilities with 102 BCF capacity, nine compressor stations with 175K HP, and 5,000 measurement and control facilities. Gas Operations is comprised of approximately 6,000 coworkers. This is an IBEW local 1245 represented classification, which has over one hundred years of experience representing employees at PG&E and is subject to collective bargaining. An employee who is a working Leader in charge of a crew of two to five people exclusive of himself/herself, engaged in construction or maintenance work. Have personal qualifications of leadership and supervisory ability, required to have the craft qualifications of a Fitter Arc, and must be familiar with G.O. 112 and G.O. 128, Company's construction and safety standards, accounting procedures and other applicable rules and procedures. Responsible to review documents for work performed for completeness and accuracy. A Gas Crew Leader-Arc may, as a working Leader, perform certain assignments with the assistance of a qualified employee. This position may be subject to Joint Apprentice Training Committee (JATC) review and approval. Provisional hires will require to participate in targeted training to achieve journey-level knowledge of the role and responsibilities. This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening. PG&E provides the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $71.55 per hour. This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.

Requirements

  • CA Class C License, or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain CA CDL Class A Permit, or equivalent, based on operational need
  • Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to pass federally mandated random drug and alcohol testing
  • Experience in division Gas T&D-Transmission and Distribution department, 0.5 year, OR training and experience to perform work to the satisfaction of the Gas Crew Leader-Arc
  • Must successfully pass Welder Performance Qualification – 60 psig and below, as outlined in Utility Procedure TD-4160P-30 and qualifications based on the provisional training plan
  • Record of completion of state or federally approved welder training program
  • If hired as provisional, must pass provisional training plan within timeline agreed to
  • Knowledge of construction and maintenance terminology, processes, and procedures as needed to perform at the job level

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of supervisory experience
  • 3 years welding experience
  • Holds a SMAW- Shielded Metal Arc Welding Certification
  • Journeyman welding experience within a utility and familiar with Public Utility Commission Regulation regarding gas per General Order 112
  • Previous underground and Gas Pipeline construction experience
  • Experience with leading safety procedures in organization
  • To better represent the communities we serve within a safe and timely manner, live within 50 miles of the headquarter location
