About The Position

BHE GT&S has an exciting opportunity as a Gas Controller I, Gas Controller II/Gas Controller Sr., at our White Oaks General Office Building location in Bridgeport, WV. The Gas Controller positions involve operating pipeline storage systems to maintain a reliable energy supply, provide economic delivery of natural gas, and protect the safety of company personnel and the public. The roles require making decisions about operating changes in response to abnormal or emergency conditions within the system, providing leadership to field personnel, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required; Associate degree preferred.
  • 0-2 years of experience for Gas Controller I; at least 3 years for Gas Controller II; at least 5 years for Gas Controller Sr.
  • Basic knowledge of company operations, pipeline network, and facilities.
  • Ability to learn and retain knowledge of natural gas safety and emergency plans/procedures.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, detect errors, and recommend changes.
  • Good understanding of operation of computerized equipment and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage work and perform varied tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to remain focused and respond competently under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred degree in Engineering Technology.
  • Experience in a team-centric work environment based on mutual respect and integrity.
  • Knowledge of Control Room Management (CRM) regulations and procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of Gas Infrastructure gas equipment and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operates pipeline storage systems to maintain a reliable energy supply.
  • Makes decisions about operating changes in response to abnormal or emergency conditions within the system.
  • Uses system expertise to provide leadership to field personnel during normal, abnormal, and emergency situations.
  • Initiates actions to maintain operational pressures and monitors system load to balance gas use among supply sources.
  • Coordinates and directs pipeline pigging operations for pipeline integrity compliance.
  • Issues pipeline procedures to remove lines and equipment from service while maintaining system reliability and integrity.
  • Responds to SCADA alarms and directs corrective action.
  • Assists and guides lower-level Gas Controllers on complex, non-routine system operations.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and responds to SCADA alarms, providing safe and efficient pipeline operations.
  • Implements daily and interday pipeline nomination changes and requests by storage partners.
  • Analyzes storage injection and withdrawal requirements and implements use of storage facilities according to plan.
