A Gardner performs routine manual labor involved with grounds and landscape maintenance; semi-skilled grounds construction and maintenance work; operates small power equipment like blowers, edgers, string trimmers and rotary walk mowers; and occasionally works in an environment involving larger equipment like tractors, loaders and deck mowers.   • Because of the fluctuating demands of the resort's operation, it may be necessary that each employee perform a multitude of different functions; therefore, as an essential part of your job, you will be expected to help others when the occasion arises, just as other employees are expected to help you. Accordingly, you may be expected to perform other tasks as needed or as directed.
  • Adhere to all of the various written mandatory standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, memos, oral instructions, etc., all of which go to make up the essential functions of the job.
  • Must posses a keen eye for detail and an ability to work with the supervisory staff.
  • Safely operate mowers, hedge trimmers, string trimmers, edgers, chain saws and small hand tools in performing job assignments.
  • Edge along all curbs, sidewalks and hardscapes as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Walk-mow lawn areas and all areas as identified by supervisory staff.
  • Shovel sand, gravel and/or mulch as directed.
  • Hand remove weeds as directed by supervisor.
  • Operate a backpack or hand held blower for debris clean-up as prescribed by supervisor.
  • Pick-up, empty and remove debris and trash.
  • Participate in landscape projects such as trimming shrubs, plants, and trees; installing plant materials; mulching; overseeding; greenhouse maintenance and seasonal activities, and any miscellaneous landscape related tasks identified by supervisory staff.
  • Maintain fuel and fluid levels for all types of equipment used on a daily basis.
  • Report all equipment problems or failures to his/her supervisor or a mechanic immediately.
  • Refuel and clean all equipment upon completion of assignment on a daily basis.
  • Return all equipment to the designated area upon completion of the task.
  • Keep the equipment storage areas clean and orderly.
  • Abide by and follow all local ordinances, city, county, state and federal laws.
  • Be a "team player" and "team builder" responsible for:
  • Making decisions and supporting decisions of management.
  • Receiving an assignment and reporting its results when completed.
  • Maintaining a positive attitude consistent with the beliefs and standards set by Horseshoe Bay Resort
  • Render advice, opinions, assistance and services to their supervisor and management.
  • Dig and backfill ditches and trenches.
  • Install and repair paths and walkways.
  • Assist with repairs to irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Assist in project work - including grading a soil base and laying sod.
  • Perform other duties and assignments to assist other departments or as directed by their supervisor.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to safely use hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of safe and efficient mechanical operation of utility vehicles and other motorized and hand held golf course maintenance equipment and procedures.
  • Sufficient mechanical aptitude and basic working knowledge of gasoline and diesel equipment operation to properly check equipment prior to use.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in grounds and landscape maintenance and construction.
  • High degree of good common sense and basic math skills.
  • Basic oral and written communication skills and able to follow instructions.
  • Resident, member and guest sensitivity.
  • Communication with the mechanic staff is essential.

  • High School diploma or equivalent General Education Degree (GED) is preferred.
