About The Position

Requirements

• Two years of nursery, greenhouse, and/or professional gardening experience.
• By the completion of the probationary period, must possess a valid Commercial Applicator License (Ornamental Plant and Shade Tree Pest Control category) issued by the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

• Three courses in arboriculture, floriculture, horticulture, entomology, or plant pathology may substitute for one year of the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Plant and transplant bulbs, seeds, flowers, shrubs, and small trees.
• Prune trees and shrubs; weed, water, and cultivate flower beds; maintain landscaped grounds.
• Harvest bare root trees from the nursery field; plant and stake tree whips.
• Apply mulch to gardens and areas around small trees and shrubs.
• Remove dead leaves, flowers, small trees, and shrubs; mow and edge around gardens, trees, and shrubs; remove ice and snow from steps and walkways; maintain grates and guards around trees.
• Collect and grow plants from seeds, cuttings, and/or seedlings; tend to seedlings and young trees.
• Operate and maintain machinery and vehicles; check fluid levels, grease parts, and sharpen and/or replace pruner or mower blades.
• Operate a laptop computer or tablet to access and complete work orders.
• Apply pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, and fertilizer to flowers, trees, shrubs, and landscaped grounds.
• Grind out tree stumps for preparation of planting new trees.
• Remove trash, litter, and debris from flower beds and landscaped grounds.
