About The Position

Middleton Place National Historic Landmark- Middleton Place is America’s Oldest Landscaped Gardens and home to a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Located along the Ashley River in Charleston, Middleton Place is a National Historic Landmark, historic home, research center, and historic plantation and stableyards. Position Summary-As a Garden Market Retail Associate, you will be the face of our garden market, providing exceptional customer service and ensuring an excellent experience. You will interact with visitors in a friendly, confident, and helpful manner and maintain a well-organized and attractive area.

Requirements

  • Strong customer service experience
  • Ability to operate POS system and handle transactions involving merchandise and food purchases
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Effective work habits including time management and teamwork
  • Ability to plan ahead and be proactive
  • Qualified applicant will need to lift up to 30 lbs. and be able to work outside in hot/humid conditions of the summer and cold conditions of the winter.
  • Physical ability to move merchandise and perform tasks that require bending, stooping and standing for extended periods
  • Flexible schedule including weekends, and holidays

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, and plant care is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Be fully competent in the operation of the point-of-sale system and credit card machines
  • Perform opening and closing functions with accuracy to report daily sales, banks, and deposits
  • Restock inventory, keep displays clean and orderly and perform additional duties as requested
  • Obtain the knowledge and have the ability to communicate the daily activities and history of Middleton Place
  • Provide informed and courteous guidance on the selection and care of plants, shrubs, and trees
  • Assist in maintaining all plant material in the retail area, including but not limited to watering, pruning, scouting for disease and insects.
