About The Position

This position assists with growing, harvesting, processing, and distributing vegetables, fruits, and herbs produced during the growing season at the Nisqually Community Garden.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn gardening principles and gain knowledge of traditional plants, food and medicine.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American customs, traditions, and culture.
  • Ability & willingness to do physically demanding work in difficult conditions for many hours at a time.
  • Ability to operate small equipment/machinery and utilize basic carpentry tools.
  • Ability to follow instructions and participate in constructive feedback.
  • Ability to follow through and complete tasks.
  • Ability to adhere to policies and procedures.
  • High School Diploma or GED OR a comparable amount of experience and/or education.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Background Check : I authorize Nisqually Indian Tribe or its designated third-party agency to conduct a background investigation, which may include verification of past employment, education, criminal history, and other relevant records.
  • Drug Screening : I understand that I will be required to undergo a drug screening test as a condition of employment (or engagement). A positive result, refusal to test, or tampering with the test may result in disqualification or termination of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out day-to-day agricultural operations, including irrigation, greenhouse operations, pest and disease management, field cultivation, planting, weeding, and fertilizing.
  • Assist with harvest and post-harvest handling & distribution for row crops, herbs, berries, medicinal plants, and orchards.
  • Participate in garden outreach programs, such as youth activities, classes, events, and workshops.
  • Operate program e quipment including hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining safe, functional, and clean workspaces.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
